Sufficient work was one of the promises made by President Arroyo during her State of the Nation Addresses. Despite this, many still remain without jobs or are employed but receive insufficient wages.

The increase of unemployment rate in the Philippines is not because the President did not fulfill her promise. She has done her share of making jobs available for the Filipino people. She attended Overseas Employment Summits to make Overseas work availability possible. PGMA is continuing her role in the development of our Business Outsourcing Industry (A.K.A. call center agents)

What made unemployment rise is the percentage of retrenchement. We are facing company retrenchment under the continuing stretch of the global economic crisis. The companies do not want to have losses in their part, nor lessen the percentage of their income. Hundreds of workers are being laid off from work in different parts of the world. Even more is the fact that this global crisis is also reflected here in the Philippines. The number of retrenched workers in here is increasing at an alarming rate. With the increasing numbers of Local Employment Agencies that does not offer job security and benefits, company client will have their ways of getting their needs and dispose employees at will, hence, an increase in unemployment rate.

What I think the government needs to do is to review and investigate these agencies and companies who are not complying with the LABOR CODE, look if they are paying taxes THE RIGHT WAY, and create a study and review how to protect the Filipino people from retrenchment by creating strict rules and policies for laying off employees. "Contractual Employees" are the the excuse for companies to get the services that they want and can get rid off. There should also be strict policies on the length of how long can a person be "Contractual", They should investigate if agencies really gives benefits of contractual employment. The investigation should be not only with the companies but with the retrenched and laid off employees and see if it complies with both the LABOR CODE and Business ethics. They should have an organization handling retrenched workers

What the Filipino People needs to do is not wait for money to land in their hands, blaming the President for poverty. It is our decisions in life that made us for what we are now. The president will not work magics to make things better for you, you will have to do it on your own. What we should do is not think what the country can do for you, think of what you can do for your country. For the people who are going to make a protest for against the SONA, you can do better if you just find work and make things better for your families. Some of you may be paid to do the rally but all we need to see is that whats happening to your lives are because of your decisions and plans, not the President's.

Its up to you Filipino People..

Start your lives by being the first to make decisions for yourselves....
Start your lives by being the ones who denies money for participation...
Start your lives by being the people who overcame poverty...

IKAW ANG MAGING SIMULA NG BAGONG BUHAY MO.
